  1. Opening introductions

  2. Approval of January 17th minutes, Mike moved, Rick seconded
(change previous minutes – add extra n in Don Hutchinson in body of text)

  3. Comments on AGM – 5 outsiders and low turnout from us and others; how can we get more out – Beau suggested that each member should be making an effort to get the message out to all groups they can reach. Discussing potential dates for the next meeting; can we pick a date earlier in the season? There are potential conflicts in May.  Next AGM - April 14, 2012 – 10am.  Sue will put on our website.  Debbie will confirm the location availability.

  4. New Logo – introduced (Denis Renaud) – what are we going to do with the logo? Patches, crests, stickers? Beau will get quotes.
Getting the word out – Beau suggested that all groups put something out on SOAR – mention that they participate in SOAR – not just a link but a discussion.

  5. Free motorcycle parking update – 1200 signatures – by postal code in this area – 628   We wanted to get all signatures, but we wanted to approach each one of the councillors.  Unfortunately, we don’t have good enough numbers to bring these to the councillors.  Toronto has free parking; Calgary doesn’t; City of Ottawa – asked if one of the members of SOAR could be on the committee, but it’s full for the next two years.  Sheldon Cross is still on the committee.  Mike said that he could include an insert in the next Retreads newsletter. Beau reiterated that he would like to see all members participate more fully.
Talked about going to bike shops – create banners to show at these; Beau will create signage; we will need people to man these.  Should we have something on loud pipe legislation? In Europe - Ireland, Scotland, Wales – no custom; must wear reflective everything; no imports older than x.  Dora looked for volunteers to go to bike shops to get our message out.  She asked for volunteers, and everyone volunteered.  Anyone who has contacts at shops should find out what their schedules are and when we can do something.

  6. Loud pipes – Beau has got some articles out; will know more in Jan./Feb/March on what the community wants to do.

  7. Safety Awareness – put it out emails to different places; didn’t see anything out there.  CFRA – the DAWG – CHRI – watch out for motorcycles.  Don is willing to help Mike get the posters out.  Get the message out to riders – and out to dealerships.  Don will contact ORA to get more flyers. Wayne Simmerson – volunteered as well.

  8. Guidelines and information package – no comments – will change the logo

  9. New Business – Debbie announced that she is resigning as chair of SOAR and opened the floor.  Mike has volunteered to chair the meetings on a short term basis.  He is looking for more participation from the group.  Debbie nominated Dora for the Chair position.  Dora has said she will do it on an interim basis.  – Dora and Mike co-chair

  10. Website – members/supports of SOAR – logos who belongs – link to the Facebook page; SOAR people doing stuff for SOAR – Beau has a list of events – Sue will have something together on the new website for the next meeting
Beau – motorcycle friendly business list – responsive to bikers; more available to bikers; contact Beau so that their business can be listed.  Let’s use our influence to help promote those businesses.

  11. Cruise nights – at RCR cars occupy more space but more bikes are there – bikers use more of the food services – Lincoln Fields – not enough support.  We need to support each other more and not just in links.  Beau will even donate a rig for events.

  12. Meetings: how many meetings should we have – we need to have meetings early in the year when we know what events are having so that we can plan to attend.  We should meet every other month – through the winter on Wednesdays – November 16th – 7pm – Rick will confirm that the date is ok.
Thank you to Bikers Church for venue; Beau for dinner and Dora for desert
Thanks to Coop for his contribution – last meeting
9:03 adjourned. Coop moved ; Rick seconded.
